If you find it difficult to sit in one place, your hands are constantly busy with something, your body does not relax and your mind cannot concentrate on anything, then you may have attention deficit disorder. This condition can also cause boredom and a constant job search.
  What happens when you get rid of boredom?
  Getting rid of this feeling can change your values. You will begin to value freedom, peace, the process of contemplation, relaxation, and fruitful communication with yourself more than usual. You will become more calm and self-sufficient.  Life will no longer be a crazy pursuit of entertainment and dubious pleasures. You will cease to find joy in alcohol and cigarettes, because your life will be interesting in itself!
  In the endless run through life, you can lose yourself. Having discovered your essence, which is possible only in a state of peace and freedom, you can understand your most secret desires. And together with these desires, you will clarify for yourself your goals and objectives.

  Many people do not know what they want. They run from one type of activity to another, change their sphere of activity, love of partners, hobbies and even worldview, but still do not find their happiness and do not understand their goals.
This is because the connection with the true person is broken. Instead of following their true identity, people begin to be guided by goals imposed by society, or desires dictated by instincts and momentary impulses.

They spend their lives on permanent jobs, moving from place to place, making meaningless purchases, putting themselves at unnecessary risk.
  It may be necessary to stop this eternal run. And we must think about whether it is worth wasting our lives on meaningless work from dawn to dawn? Will it bring you happiness? Is this the only way? Maybe your purpose and the meaning of your life consists of something else?

Boredom is one of the reasons that prevents us from enjoying life! This article will not talk about all sorts of cures for boredom, ways to entertain yourself and something to do. I am going to talk about how to make sure that you do not have a feeling of boredom at all.

I’ll tell you why boredom is one of the most dangerous and harmful psychological conditions for an individual and lead to the need to get rid of it. And also you will understand why this condition negatively affects our ability to enjoy life.

What is the danger of boredom?

Boredom is not just some kind of mood that arises from time to time and does not affect your personality. In fact, this is one of the main causes of many human problems. Well-known psychologist Viktor Frankl said: “Today, both patients and psychiatrists pose boredom to us more problems than desires and even the so-called sexual desires.”

Boredom constantly provokes you to be in search of external stimuli, any activity just so as not to experience the state of discomfort associated with the absence of any activity. The trouble is that such a search for activities to get rid of boredom does not occur selectively. You are ready to do the most routine and senseless work, if only not to sit idle, you just need to do something, it does not matter what, or experience any sensations.

This is somewhat reminiscent of drug addiction, only information and irritants of the sensory organs act instead of the narcotic substance. Uncontrolled desire also arises, the satisfaction of which does not bring much pleasure, but only for a certain time relieves the feeling of discomfort. And life begins to acquire colors only at those moments when this desire is granted.

Problems and troubles associated with boredom.

Impressive, isn't it? But I think you are not accustomed to considering boredom as a source of evil, and you may be surprised at looking at this state from this angle. It’s okay, when reading my blog, you will often come across similar situations: first I declare that some property of your personality that you are not used to worrying about is actually the cause of problems and an obstacle to self-development, and I clearly explain why this is so, and not otherwise.

But what will surprise you most is that I do not just identify problem areas in order to once again indicate the imperfection of human nature, but when I call something a problem, I say that you can get rid of it, no matter how confident you are, and showing the current way to do this.

Is it even possible to stop feeling bored?

Why should this be surprising? I will explain. Surely many people believe that boredom is a natural state of a person in the absence of any activity, and therefore it is impossible to get rid of it, as well as from hunger or thirst. Or are you sure that missing is a property of your nature, you, a person who needs activity and will always strive for it. I declare that this is simply a personality flaw, a very serious one, which can be eliminated, like all other shortcomings. This may be surprising.

But no matter how unrealistic it may sound, I myself got rid of this state: i almost never get bored. Thanks to this, I am always relaxed and in a feeling of comfort: on long trips, during waiting hours, which may seem tedious to many. I can enjoy rest, inaction and contemplation, which very deeply relaxes me. I don’t need to smoke or drink to amuse myself.

I do what is interesting to me, and do not burden myself with unnecessary, useless activity, so as not to be bored. I can spend a long time alone with myself: I do not dangle in frantic rush to clubs, restaurants, with the goal of at least somehow taking my time. In general, I can enjoy every minute allotted and do not rush to do everything so that I can live this moment as soon as possible.

Why is it so important to spend more time alone with yourself?

Boredom reduces the amount of time that you can spend alone with yourself, because it constantly makes you look for yourself an occupation or society. This can be a serious life obstacle. Since in moments of calm contemplation and reflection, the most valuable thoughts come to you. You can make an important decision, rethink your experience, realize the meaninglessness and futility of your current aspirations, set yourself a more suitable goal for you and not follow false, imposed impulses from outside you.

The more people are busy with their own affairs and the less often they have minutes of thought, the worse they are able to make independent decisions and follow a conscious course, since they think little and all their energy is “quenched” by different activities. Do you know why in the army a soldier should be busy all the time? And to think less and submit more.

In totalitarian societies or various book dystopias (Orwell books - 1984, Huxley - Oh brave new world), an individual must be constantly exposed to information or sensory influences in order to successfully enslave the ruling class: have an unreasonably long working day in terms of productivity, which should completely exhaust, so that no forces remain. And in moments of rest, he either listens to the radio, or watches TV with stupid patriotic programs. So, no seditious thoughts about the imperfection of the state and the meaninglessness of his life as a social unit, a working ant, come to his head, since these thoughts have no time to come.

As a result, a person can no longer spend time alone with himself: he is bored and even scared. He panically searches for an occupation or a way to hammer in an "information channel". Now you understand that boredom does not arise just like a natural need for consciousness? Rather, it is a consequence of constant employment, random brain consumption of information and impressions, or it is a symptom of existential emptiness and lack of internal content (I will talk about this at the end of the article).

As a result, you stop perceiving life as a valuable gift, as a combination of opportunities and interesting events, as existence in the name of oneself!  You strive to kill every priceless moment of existence, to drown it in unnecessary deeds, meaningless entertainment and alcohol. You are in constant flight from yourself, from your thoughts! It turns out that life is losing its value for you and you are already can't enjoy her just like that.

Boredom is like a drug

Boredom makes you dependent on yourself and deprives you of a choice about what you do and when. You have to run somewhere: consume tons of any information, a lot of “information garbage”, make unnecessary purchases, be constantly on the lookout for all kinds of entertainments, including forbidden ones, engage in stupefying (drugs, including alcohol), watch stupid programs, do stupid things work and it is pointless to burn and waste life.

This is reminiscent of the plot of the action movie “Adrenaline,” in which some fantastic drug substance is injected into the hero of Jason Statham, and his action is that the one to whom he is injected dies after some time, and the only way to stop the destructive effect of the poison - This is to maintain a constant production of adrenaline. Therefore, the hero has to run and shoot, throw himself under the car, jump from a great height without a parachute (without forgetting about the shooting). Likewise, many people are attached to the sources of killing boredom.

Moreover, these sources are not infinite at all. Gradually, the “dose” has to be increased: to look for more exotic entertainments, to make more expensive purchases, as familiar things already bother and cease to bring satisfaction. If this is not done, then a dull satiety is formed, and as a result of apathy, again boredom, "breaking". I do not just use terms from the world of drug addiction, since a chronic feeling of boredom is the “breaking up” of someone who is used to constant external stimulation and nourishment of impressions of the body.

Therefore, attempts to cope with the state of boredom by searching for new ways of such an escape are just as meaningless as removing the nicotine craving by smoking cigarettes. Yes, you will satisfy a local need, but only for a while, until it arises again, and the further you go, it will be stronger and demand more and more from you ... In order to avoid the desire to smoke, you need to quit this habit, eliminate the causes of your addiction and never smoke! This is the best solution, which is obvious. Therefore, I will try to teach how not to feel bored at all .. Or almost not.

Boredom as motivation?

I can argue that boredom is the current motive for any work, without it you would not have budged at all and would have done nothing .. She helped you achieve something.

Okay, then back to the analogies from the life of drug addicts. Suppose someone lived - did not grieve, was lazy and did not work and somehow existed on pennies. Then he got addicted to drugs. Now he needs more money to buy it for himself. If he doesn’t work, he will be tormented, so he had to find a better-paid job, not skip it and try to stay on it.

So, do we now thank the drugs for helping him achieve something? I think it’s not worth doing this, because in spite of material success, a person degrades because of his addiction (just as he loses interest in life due to boredom). The whole problem was his laziness, which did not allow him to find a good job, or in general he didn’t really need this money: everything was fine with him.

A person should be motivated by a lively interest, a desire to develop, achieve goals and realize their potential, and not the boredom that turns you into a diligent worker and an obedient robot. It’s better to strive for the work most suitable for yourself (or not to work at all if you don’t like it, and there is a financial possibility not to do it), and not look for any, the first one you get, just to keep yourself busy and kill boredom.

If you look at boredom as a motive, you can fall into a vicious circle: you work, but work does not bring you pleasure, but You can’t work either, because you’re afraid of getting bored.
  In this case, your work covers the whole area of \u200b\u200byour interests; you cannot imagine what to do in its absence.

Perhaps this is due to a lack of other hobbies. You cannot come up with a lesson for yourself, you are waiting for someone to organize it for you, your company, for example .. This is how life goes: in unloved work and in tiny rest periods between periods of working time. And even while resting, you devote little time to yourself, but continue to run away from boredom, drowning in avalanches of information, fuss, business and alcohol. What remains for themselves after this?

In this example, we discard the financial aspect that they have to work so that there is something to live for.

Yes, this is certainly true. But, firstly, I know a lot of people who have the opportunity not to engage in daily routine work in the office, as there is some other income, but nevertheless, despite this, they get hired work, because imagine what they will do in their free time.

Secondly, if you are not afraid of the prospect of a large amount of free time and are not suddenly afraid to be alone with your thoughts, then you will probably begin to look for ways to save yourself from the annoying, everyday routine, and start creating sources of income that are managed does not take so much time and effort. And instead of spinning a squirrel in a wheel, burning nerves, energy, health, youth and potential, you will begin to plan opportunities that will allow you to devote more time to yourself and live for yourself.

How personality will change when you get rid of boredom

So we come to the most important thing. While it may seem to you that there is no big problem that you are bored, and you do not know what to do and entertain yourself. You simply do not realize how much fuller and richer life becomes when you manage to deal with the subjective causes of boredom!

Beloved work may cease to be beloved, but unloved will become even more unpleasant due to the fact that it alienates you from yourself, and instead of devoting time to yourself and your loved ones, developing yourself, learning new things, improving yourself, you spend it to some kind of corporate red tape and participation in office squabbles. And you will begin to clearly understand this.

I also have bonuses, you say, lived, did not work, worked, drank on Fridays, went to Ikeya on weekends, everything was fine, and now you come and say that I will teach you self-development, as a result of which we will be disgusted with all these things and we will begin to grieve over some unattainable freedom! To this I will answer that, firstly, the result of self-development and, if you allow me to use such a term, “expansion of consciousness”, is a certain reassessment of values, a change in outlook on things, the entrance of which you begin to strive for a new one and change the usual course of things. This is natural and inevitable. Remember how you grew up, transformed from a child into an adult? Many of the things that seemed important in childhood lost their value for you when you reached a certain age. In fact, "growing up" can go on to advanced years and the fact that you are now 30, 40 years old does not mean that you have reached the peak of maturity. Worst of all, when this process stops forever, and you don’t even know about it ...

Secondly, freedom is not at all unattainable, and the lifestyle that requires you to be permanently employed at work is not uncontested. There are many ways to get rid of the burden of useless work, but this topic is a separate article ...

But before you new goals will appear: what you need to strive for in order to achieve happiness. You will slowly begin to implement your life project.

Getting rid of boredom will also be manifested in the love of a contemplative pastime: reading, thinking, enjoying nature, unhurried walks. This can significantly relieve your brain and lead to calm and a sense of inner comfort, order and joy, and also, thanks to reflection, you will rethink and understand many things. During the rest, you will really “rest”, and not destroy your health with alcoholic libations: I assure you, the body does not rest while drunk!

Yes, and you will stop taking pleasure in alcohol, because, firstly, you will be more relaxed and there will be no need to relieve tension, and secondly, self-sufficiency, you will be so well alone with yourself or your loved ones and you will not need to use something. After all, do you remember that boredom is one of the causes of bad habits? Surely you know how many people drink too much in the village, guess what.

You will become calm, long trips and hours of waiting will not bore you, each moment of your life will gain fullness and self: it will not be perceived simply as a transition from something to something, as a length of time connecting two points, this moment will be filled value in itself! This will give the joy of life and a sense of grandeur of every moment of existence!

You will understand how little is needed for happiness! This does not mean that you can be happy in rags and living in the garbage. Do not get me wrong, I do not preach renunciation of earthly goods. I mean, that you may have spent a lot of money and health in pursuit of entertainment and things, thinking that owning things will bring you happiness. This is a consequence of the gaping inner emptiness that you sought to fill with the purchase of things and all sorts of unusual sensations.

When you cope with this emptiness, you will find inner harmony and self-sufficiency. You will not need to lower a lot of money into the pipe, only then to feel alive and defeat the boredom that corrodes you from the inside.

In general, getting rid of boredom promises happiness, harmony, self-sufficiency and peace. These are the things that you may not get while you are subject to a condition such as boredom.

How to get rid of boredom

If you read what I wrote above and slightly “absorbed” it into yourself, then you have already done part of the job. My main task was to guide you to a certain course of thoughts, to instill in you an understanding of boredom as a kind of vice that destroys your personality. If there is such an understanding and there is a certain moral attitude to cope with this and achieve the joy of life, then all the practical tips and recommendations below will not bear the character of revelations for you. They follow very obviously and logically from what I said.

So let's transgress.

How to find the joy of life, destroying boredom

Here are a few tips that you won’t be bored with.

Spend more time alone with yourself:  during this time, try to calm down, relax. Meditate on something, better on an abstract, not attached to the current moment. Do not think about work on current affairs, but make plans, think about yourself and your future, about how to achieve your happiness and what you need to do. Critically assess your current family, financial, position, state of health and mind, if there are any problems there?

Can they be solved and how to do it? If you can’t get yourself to think, concentrate and you are distracted by thoughts about current affairs, then you need to learn how to relax, clear your mind and put your thoughts in order, this will teach you:

Meditation: yes, in each of my articles I advise (even insist) to do it, how to do it, read on. It is a mistake to believe that there is no universal exercise that helps to get rid of many problems. There is such an exercise - this is meditation. By practicing that, you will learn to relax and clear your brain of thoughts, to exist in the present moment, discarding worries about the future and past memories.

The action of this practice is directly aimed at eliminating the main source of boredom: inner anxiety and fear of being alone with oneself. During meditation, you listen to what is happening inside, establishing a connection with your body. It helps to look at many things soberly and impartially and thereby get rid of many prejudices. This is perhaps what you need to start, get rid of boredom.

Fullness of internal content:  one of the reasons why you get bored when you stay in silence, away from everyone, may be existential emptiness. Despite the ingenious word, this term hides a completely understandable thing. This emptiness is formed when a person has no interests, hobbies, little joys, thoughts, dreams, conscious desires and will.

This is when a person dull plankton flounders on the surface of being and is carried away by streams of fate in an arbitrary direction. In general, I will not dwell in detail, this is an extensive topic that requires a separate article. In short, because of this emptiness, you are sadly alone with yourself, since you are not acting as an interesting interlocutor for internal dialogue. Therefore, read more good books, blogs, and articles, communicate with smart people, watch high-quality films and reflect, reflect, reflect.

Contemplation: Learn to enjoy peace and quiet. You can just lie on the grass for a long time, look at the sky and try not to think about anything, or lie in bed, eyes closed, listening to calm,. Try to spend more time outdoors, in silence. Take a walk, walk at a slow pace, just looking around.

Come up with a hobby, an occupation:  choose the area in which you would like to develop and get some skills, for example, photography and photo processing, cycling, music (this can be either mastering a musical instrument or gaining skills in computer applications (sequencers) for creating music and mastering, it depends on what is closer to you), programming, writing blog articles, chess, poker, spiritual practices, etc. etc. Do not think that you don’t have a soul for anything, because in order to really get carried away with some business, you need to master it at least a little.

Any activity, even the most unloved in the beginning, can start to bring joy as soon as it works better for you than others, and some skill appears. Just start. Try yourself here and there, experiment. Instead of spending free time at home and at work for all sorts of nonsense, do something that will develop you, that will make your leisure time productive. And who knows, maybe a new hobby, when you master it perfectly, will become your favorite business in the future, thanks to which you will gain financial independence, get rid of office shackles and change your life for the better. You just need to start, not be lazy and not afraid to learn new things and try yourself in different things.

Tolerate loneliness and monotony: Try to relax during long trips, time spent in public transport or during waiting hours. If you are used to holding your hands with an iPhone or beer, then it's time to get rid of it.

At first it will not be easy, you will have to make great efforts and step over yourself. But then you will be struck by the results of the work done, I assure you.

1. Set a goal and make a plan on how to achieve it.

Every day is an opportunity to make your life the way you want to see it. Rejoice that you live, do not waste your time on negative emotions.

5. Grow!

Read more, go to educational trainings, communicate more with people whom you admire. Learn to dance. Learn English or Italian. This will broaden your horizons. You will immediately feel that people will reach for you, because they will see in you an interesting interlocutor and a happy person.
